The EV Battery Validation Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing validation testing activities for electric vehicle (EV) battery packs. This role involves working closely with internal engineering teams and external testing facilities to ensure testing meets technical requirements, timelines, and quality standards. The engineer will oversee testing logistics, support root cause analysis, manage issue resolution, and ensure proper documentation and reporting throughout the validation process.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage the shipment of completed battery packs to designated test facilities per customer or project requirements.
Coordinate validation testing activities in alignment with Design Validation Plans (DVP), test specifications, and engineering best practices.
Ensure all required test components (battery packs, specifications, procedures, connectors, plugs, fixtures, etc.) are prepared and delivered on schedule.
Review and approve test setups, fixtures, procedures, and test chamber configurations at internal and third-party test labs.
Track test execution against the plan and provide updates during program or project reviews.
Participate in troubleshooting efforts and support technical issue resolution during validation testing.
Maintain detailed and organized test records for each validation activity.
Review, approve, and archive final test reports and associated documentation.
Manage the disposition of test hardware after completion of testing.
Lead the development, improvement, and maintenance of validation procedures and test plans.
Provide on-site engineering support at validation and test facilities as needed.
Conduct technical investigations, root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
Use tools such as CANalyzer or similar to support battery control module integration and diagnostics.
Apply structured problem-solving methods such as DFSS, 8D, 5-Why, and Fault Tree Analysis.
Recreate and analyze failure modes identified during testing or through field performance data.
Travel Requirements:
Travel to regional testing and validation centers as required to support builds, testing, and issue resolution.
Occasional visits to cross-border or out-of-state facilities depending on project needs.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Solid understanding of automotive EV battery design and battery electronics.
Experience with design and process validation planning and execution.
Familiarity with battery data collection tools and data plotting/analysis techniques.
Proficient in diagnostic tools such as CANalyzer for battery system analysis.
Strong analytical skills using DFSS, 8D, 5-Why, and Fault Tree Analysis methodologies.
Knowledge of mechanical fasteners, torque specifications, and battery pack assembly.
Familiarity with electronic BOM systems and CAD software; experience with TeamCenter is a plus.
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple concurrent projects.
Excellent technical communication and documentation skills.
Experience in hands-on testing and validation of high-voltage systems preferred.
