Position Summary

Sony Honda Mobility of America Inc. (SHMA) is seeking a hands-on, experienced, and service-focused EV Service Technician Trainer to join our growing Service Operations team. Based in Culver City, CA (until the opening of our Southern California Delivery Center in Torrance, CA in Fall 2025), this role is critical to launching and sustaining an exceptional post-purchase customer experience for our electric vehicle brand, AFEELA.

This position is ideal for a certified technician who is passionate about electric vehiclestechnical training, and driving service quality standards across a growing EV ecosystem. You will train internal SHMA team members and external service partners on vehicle repair procedures, diagnostics, high-voltage systems, and safety protocols, playing a pivotal role in shaping AFEELA’s customer service excellence.

Job Responsibilities

  • Train SHMA staff and external service partners on AFEELA vehicle diagnostics, repair procedures, and maintenance tasks.
  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert (SME) for all EV service operations, including high-voltage battery systems, body repairs, and safety protocols.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with the Customer Experience, Field Service, and Technical Operations teams to escalate and resolve complex technical concerns.
  • Create and deliver technical training content (presentations, manuals, demos), and lead “train-the-trainer” programs.
  • Mentor and onboard service team members, including SHMA Cash Champions and third-party technicians.
  • Evaluate service performance of partners and recommend technical upskilling where needed.
  • Manage and update technical documentation, repair procedures, and service manuals specific to AFEELA vehicles.
  • Participate in vehicle service readiness activities, including delivery prep, diagnostics, and warranty repair coordination.
  • Analyze service data and customer feedback to identify patterns and drive continuous improvements in repair quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Support training events and service partner visits, including occasional travel as needed.

Qualifications for Position

Required

  • 5+ years of hands-on automotive technician experience, with a strong preference for electric vehicle (EV) systems.
  • Valid automotive technician certifications (ASE, OEM factory certifications, or equivalent).
  • Advanced understanding of vehicle diagnostics, repairs, high-voltage battery systems, and bodywork.
  • Proven experience training or mentoring technicians in a dealership, OEM, or service environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex systems to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proficiency using digital repair manuals, diagnostic software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to travel as needed for field training or partner site visits.

Preferred

  • Experience with high-voltage EV battery systems and associated safety standards.
  • Background in body and paint repair operations in an automotive setting.
  • Familiarity with connected car technologies and digital service platforms.
  • Experience managing CRM and customer engagement platforms.
  • Knowledge of warranty processes and customer service in a high-volume automotive environment

Additional Details

  • Experience working in an EV startup or emerging OEM service network.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish or Japanese.
  • Experience developing technical training curriculum or service education content.
  • Familiarity with ADAS systems, telematics, and software-over-the-air (SOTA) updates.

The anticipated annual base salary for this position is $80,000-$110,000. This range does not include any other compensation components or other benefits that an individual may be eligible for.  The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
