Position Summary

The Battery Engineer will be responsible for development, selection and validation active materials across the anode and cathode portfolio, assisting in development and implementation of R&D tools, and general engineering tasks. This includes developing and characterizing active/passive materials, developing slurry and coating recipes, building cells, and cell testing, leading engineering design and construction. This individual will be a key contributor in advancing NantG Power's competitive advantage to drive energy density, power density, safety, and materials sustainability improvements at scale. The ideal candidate will have a strong record of scientific achievement in the areas of Li-ion batteries, nanomaterials, and/or electrochemistry.

Responsibilities

  • Designing and developing the next generation of lithium-ion cells
  • Mixing and coating at benchtop- and pilot-scale
  • Characterization using standard materials science tools
  • Cell testing and data presentation
  • Building, 3D printing, CAD, and maintenance, etc.
  • Collaborating with cell modeling teams and battery engineering groups to verify accuracy of performance models
  • Collaborating with QC teams to establish acceptance criteria for all incoming materials and developing methods to improve
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • B.S/M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related technical field (BS 2 years of professional experience. MS + 0 years)
  • Understanding of electrochemical processes as they relate to lithium batteries
  • Knowledge of pouch, coin cell, cylindrical, and prismatic cell assembly at a lab and pilot scale
  • Solidworks or other CAD experience
  • Proficiency in a workshop and with prototyping and assembly tools for mechanical and electrical assemblies
  • Experience with data processing (Microsoft Excel or other) and statistical methods (Minitab or other)
  • Self-starter with ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives
  • Strong understanding of materials characterization tools such as SEM, XRD, XPS, Raman, BET, TGA/DSC, and chromatography techniques
  • Strong communication, documentation and organizational skills
  • Ability to use statistical tools to support proposed solutions
  • Strong understanding of current and historical state-of-the-art in the battery industry

Job Location: Culver City, CA

The pay range for this position is below.  The specific rate will depend on the successful candidate’s qualifications, prior experience. 

Salary: $75,000 (entry-level qualifications) to $100,000 (highly experienced)

This is the pay range the Company reasonably expects to pay for this position at the time of this posting. Compensation will be determined based on the skills, qualifications, and experience of the applicant along with the requirements of the position.
